Did you know we spend a third of our life sleeping, another third working, and a large part of the remainder eating, answering the call of nature, and performing logistical chores. This leaves only about 5.6 years to do what We want to do.
So, ask yourself this question: How much of your 5.6 years have you already spent?
Now, knowing this fact about life, why would anyone want to waste this short life on pointless activities?
So, how do we best use this time?
First, internalize this truth of all truths:
Allah (swt) saids; “We have not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them for a (mere) play.” (Qur’an 21:16)
Then, understand that the time you spend, you’ll never get back! 7.18pm on Friday 28th March 2014 is gone for forever!
“Two favors that many of the people squander are health and free time.” [Hadith, Tirmidhi]
Once these two points are internalized wholeheartedly, you will automatically want
to be more productive with your life. Tell me if I am wrong.
Lead an active life, and be an example to people around you
It's easier to make things happen in life if you're an active outgoing person. Because, then all you have to do is channel that habit toward a clearly defined objective.
So, what can we do to make ourselves more active?
Well, instead of sitting and watching TV for far too long we could be playing with our kids in the park or helping with the household chores.
(BTW, I cycle to work and back every weekday, and I also go cycling on Sundays with brothers. Let me know if anyone wants to join our Bike Club.)
Instead of recycling the same old stuff on Facebook and WhatsApp, we could go out there and meet those same people in their homes, in the mosque, or at an event/ seminar.
Live an active life doing good deeds, and you’ll see people close to you follow suit.
It's easy to become demoralised if we spend day in and day out doing meaningless activities. I mean, has anyone ever felt dissatisfied praying day in and day out or doing anything else that's for the sake of Allah?
It's never too late to start making changes in us and in others.
“If Allah guides a person through you, it is better for you than all that is on the earth.” (Hadith, Bukhari)
Allah loves bravery
"There are two traits Allah Most High loves: generosity and bravery. There are two traits Allah Most High hates: miserliness and indecency." (Hadith, Bayhaqi)
So, brave the first steps in making a new beginning in your life. Take chances, and do the things you always wanted to do (amongst those things that please Allah –swt).
Don’t procrastinate. Don’t wait for tomorrow. Don’t let shaitan put you down.
'Whatever you need to do, wherever you need to be, make a start today, because tomorrow may never come!'
